11th and 12th Grade
Holistic college counseling walks your student from the beginning of the application process to the end of the process.
I'll stay with your student until they have chosen a school that is a good fit academically, socially, emotionally, and financially. Even after they graduate high school, your teen can stay connected to mentorship and resources in the Beyond Barriers Student and Alumni platform.
I don’t make promises about schools, I make promises about students.9TH-12TH GRADE INTEREST FORM

Your teen will be a wonderful addition to a college campus.
Confidence isn’t always easy. Finding your drive doesn’t always come naturally. Staying on top of deadlines can sometimes be challenging.
My goal is to bring peace of mind to your family. I make the process as stress-free as possible, while simultaneously helping your student grow and develop the ability to think introspectively about her academic goals, needs, and desires. I spend time researching and visiting colleges so that I can bring my knowledge of schools to your family and assist your student in his college search process. Moreover, I spend time getting to know and mentor your student and I advocate for her best interest every step of the way.
By working with me your teen will feel:
More confident in herself and her abilities.

If you’re reading this page, you might be having doubts over whether you’ll be able to manage this application process as a family without feeling overwhelmed or burned out by the end of it.
I know what it is like to be intellectually curious and excited about many possibilities. I never stopped asking questions in high school. As a student, the only limit to my academic achievement was knowledge about the opportunities that could benefit me. As a counselor, I expose my students to opportunities and encourage them in their dreams to help them reach their full potential, uncover their interests, and step into their purpose.
I know what it is like to need a confidence boost. I overcame self-esteem and confidence issues in high school, as well as anxiety and depression, and am able to relate to teens in a way that boosts their self-confidence, empowers them to passionately pursue their goals, and be more honest and introspective with themselves. I care about being a mentor to my students, during high school and beyond.
I know what it is like to crave organization. As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD later in life, I work diligently with my students to organize deadlines in spreadsheets and a dedicated college planning website so all information is in one place.
I know what it is like to embody the American dream. As the daughter of military parents and an immigrant mother, my parents did not go to college in the “traditional” way. Education was very important to my family and I take the privilege and responsibility of working with your teen in this process seriously.
As the first lawyer in my family, and having put myself through law school while juggling 2+ jobs and overcoming health challenges, I’d like to be the first to tell your teen "you can do it."
You can achieve your college dreams.
As a professional college counselor for the past 9+ years, and as a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association, the National Association for College Admission Counseling, and the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling, I can help you put your teen put their best foot forward in their college applications.
I’d love to share what I’ve learned with your teen and personally coach them as they pursue their college goals.
Let’s make your teen’s dreams a reality today.

What my families say about working with me . . .
Sydney has worked with two of my children, focusing mostly on essay and interview preparation. She makes the most of every session by providing effective feedback, asking pertinent, focused questions, and providing targeted advice. She has a wealth of knowledge and has been instrumental in helping both me and my children successfully navigate the complexities of the application process. Most importantly, she focuses on the whole child, not just the college application. She has always taken the time to truly get to know my children and has encouraged and counseled them based on their unique and individual needs.
Sydney’s support and kindness goes beyond the application. Her help added the extra push for my overall application package to stand out.

Overall, my daughter and I were satisfied with the program, as we were advised through every step of the program. I greatly appreciated the guidance through the different periods of the application process, from college searching, to selection, to application completion (especially essay writing). Frequently, we were advised when to begin (and complete) a step of the process; this was most helpful. The college app process is overwhelming and having Sydney guide us through each step, helped make the experience less daunting and achievable in finding a school, best suited for our daughter. She and our family are very happy with her college selection. Sydney's great support and guidance has helped us get there.

feel so fortunate to have connected with Sydney as I was starting my journey through high school. I can tell that she takes an interest in my growth not only as a student, but as a person. I look forward to my calls with Sydney where we discuss a wide range of topics, including my four year high school plan, AP classes, possible career paths, summer courses and more. I always leave the calls with an action list and am very grateful to have her in my corner. I feel like nothing will fall through the cracks with Sydney and for that I am so thankful.

Sydney was very polite, patient, and really knew what she was doing. Sydney, per her own attendance at two Ivy Leagues (Princeton –undergrad and Harvard, Law School), and also having been accepted to a number of other colleges, universities, public, private, traditional, liberal arts etc., had a great understanding of all types of collegiate settings! This was critical, because I was initially unsure of the type of college that would best cater to my needs. She helped me grasp the different college settings and she helped me understand how it matched with my future goals. You need an educational consultant, like Sydney, so that when you compile the list of schools that best fit you and/or your desired goals, she can help you differentiate the writing of your essays, proper completion of the applications, deadlines and key in on what you bring to make the schools value you as an asset….which is critical! Sydney helped me gain acceptances to George Washington, American, Morehouse, and others……as an African American male, desiring a small setting and Chinese/Econ double major with Spanish as my minor, I decided on Morehouse College. It has been the perfect setting for me! Thanks to Sydney and some hard work from me I received an academic scholarship! I highly recommend Sydney Montgomery, an experienced individual that is very current on the college processes and very focused on you as an individual!! Thank you Sydney!
